Overview

Stewart & Stevenson is Now Hiring Traffic Manager at 8631 East Freeway Houston, TX 77029.

 

Responsible for managing and coordinating economical and efficient transportation services and product distribution methods, plans, and systems for the company and its customers and ensuring balance between customer service objectives and the cost to achieve those objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage domestic and international traffic practices and procedures.
  • Evaluate and select freight carriers, methods of transport, and suitable routes based on cost, service, and timely delivery objectives.
  • Negotiate freight rates with all freight carriers.                                   
  • Conduct on-going freight analysis for transportation improvements and better efficiencies.
  • Assess freight carrier service performance, including timely delivery, product condition and driver performance feedback.
  • Monitor shipment status, recommend appropriate shipping containers and packing methods for products.
  • Manage all customer shipping issues, including claims for loss or damage.
  • Manage outbound and inbound freight traffic for department.
  • Supervise and monitor freight bill auditing and payment processes.
  • Manage a third-party freight payment system for payment/audit of freight bills, routing of freight, charge backs and monitoring vendor service levels.
  • Coordinate shipment of radioactive materials, both domestically and internationally.
  • Monitor contract compliance for shipment of products to international customers.
  • Maintain and communicate knowledge of all rules and regulations governing the movement of freight, domestically and internationally, and industry trends and practices.
  • Establish work standards and evaluate staff's performance.
  • Identify, address, and implement employee development and training opportunities.

Education/Experience:

High School Diploma or General Education (GED) and four to ten years related experience. Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred.

 

Computer Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint).

 

Other Requirements:

  • Prior experience with import/export procedures, international freight, Far East container logistics, and labeling and delivery requirements for major retailers required. Knowledge of all laws and regulations as they pertain to traffic, such as National Motor Freight Classification Tariff, required. Working knowledge of carrier contracts, freight claim filings, and motor carrier cargo insurance required. Knowledge of Customs rules and regulations, NAFTA Certificates, Letters of Credit (L/C). Prior experience interacting with Customs Brokers strongly preferred. Prior experience with radioactive shipping and handling preferred. Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate business needs required.
